  • Payment Instructions

As you can read in the above payment schedule, the first deadline to participate in the 2014 Summer Study Abroad Program is to make a non-refundable deposit toward the program fee.  A $300, non-refundable deposit is required to process your application.

If you have submitted an application, you must secure your spot with a $300 non-refundable deposit to the UCR Cashier's Office by mail or in person with a personal check, bank check, or money order.  You MUST request this deposit go into a “D” account for a Summer Study Abroad Program.  If you are a financial aid student and expect to have grants and loans cover part or all of the program fee, you must still come up with the $300 non-refundable deposit immediately.  If you are not a UCR student, you will receive a separate e-mail with a UCR Student ID number to identify yourself in the UCR student information system.  As a non-UCR student, visiting students will need to work with their home campus Financial Aid Office to request financial assistance for the program.  UCR students must add their SID number to your checks, money orders, or bank checks.  If you are paying with cash, you will be asked to give your UCR student ID number.  Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure your deposit is credited toward your program fee.

  • 2014 Financial Aid

UC RIVERSIDE STUDENTS:

Timelines for study abroad are such that your financial aid package may not be finalized until late in the process, so it is important to stay on top of things.
You should:

  • Submit the FAFSA by March 2nd
  • Understand that Financial Aid consists of grant, scholarship and loan(s)
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress as of the end of the spring quarter 2014 in order to be eligible for summer funding.
  • Contact Kelly Mitchell in the Financial Aid Office directly if you have Summer Study Abroad related financial aid questions.

Do not assume that your financial aid package will be the same as for the regular academic year.  While you may be eligible for financial aid, summer aid is likely to include a higher portion of student and/or parent loans.

Any Pell Grant and/or federal student loan(s) received during the summer may reduce the amount of Pell Grant and/or federal student loan(s) available to you during the regular academic year.

Graduating seniors enrolled in less than a full academic year (three terms) will have their federal student loan eligibility prorated based on the actual number of units for which they will be enrolled during their one or two terms of attendance.

Summer aid will be disbursed as usual.  All awards are applied against your Growl account balance and any excess financial aid is refunded through your UCR student account (students should be signed up for Direct Deposit!).

Financial aid refunds will not be released any earlier than 10 days prior to the start date of the program so students should make their own arrangements to pre-pay travel expenses.

NON-UC RIVERSIDE STUDENTS:

Other UC campus applicants will need to request financial assistance from their home campus. These students must adhere to the payment deadlines by paying UC Riverside directly and receiving reimbursement from their home campus Financial Aid Office.

If you are not a student in the University of California system, you are still welcome to apply to the UCR Summer Study Abroad program.  You should check with the financial aid office in your home campus to ask if you are eligible for financial assistance for this academic program.
